Artificial intelligence in supply chain and operations management: a multiple case study research

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly considered a source of competitive advantage in operations and supply chain management (OSCM). However, many organisations still struggle to adopt it successfully empirical studies providing clear indications are scarce the literature. This research aims shed light on how AI applications can support OSCM processes identify benefits barriers their implementation. To this end, conducts multiple case study with semi-structured interviews six companies, totalling 17 implementation cases. The Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model guided entire analysis results by targeting specific processes. highlighted methods increase companies’ competitiveness reducing costs lead times improving service levels, quality, safety, sustainability. they also AI, such as ensuring data lack skills, need for high investments, clarity economic experience cost projects. Although nature not suitable wide generalisation, offers guidance practitioners facing dilemmas SCOR provides basis further future research.
